Our People

We think that great employees make a great company and we want to ensure that we keep them.  As a family run business, we understand that our staff are our most important asset.

Many of our staff have been with us for many years, from apprentice stage to fully skilled members of staff with years of valuable experience.  All staff have the relevant skills, experience, qualifications and training to ensure that we deliver a quality service to our clients.

Construction Industry Training Board

Union Contractors (Midlands) Ltd are aware that a Training Programme is a vital factor for the continued growth of the Company and the wellbeing of all employees. We continually strive to improve on all aspects of training and as subscribers to the Construction Industry Training Board, we are fully informed of courses available for operatives and staff. Attendance on such courses is regularly conducted throughout the year.

We have held and submitted an annual Training Plan with the CITB for over 10 years.

CPCS and CSCS Cards

All of our site staff are CSCS (for relevant trade) cardholders and CPCS for the plant that they operate. As well as undergoing the CITB Health and Safety Test our operatives have undertaken the CITB Site Safety Plus, one day training course, as required under the new CITB rules.  Site Managers hold a Gold CSCS card.

SSSTS

Our Site Supervisors have undertaken the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS), which is an industry recognised course.

NVQ’s

All staff are encouraged to develop skills and knowledge via the NVQ route and many of our staff have NVQ’s.  Our Site Management staff hold NVQ’s for Site Supervision in Building and Civil Engineering.

NRSWA

NRSWA operative or NRSWA supervisor qualification ensures all work on roads and infrastructure in the United Kingdom is carried out to a safe and high standard.  This qualification ensures that staff have the skills to carry out street works to the standards required by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
